What is the MINIMUM amount of lift I need to do to fit 285/75/16 mud tires and 2" wheel spacers on my 1998 4runner limited ? Thanks :)
stock tire size 265/70/16
the tire I want to put 285/75/16
wheel spacer 2"
Ok, a little number crunching and it looks like you're going from about a 31 inch tire to about a 33 inch tire. I would recommend a lift kit of some kind. I believe your 4Runner has coil springs all the way around (no leaf springs), so you may be able to go a cheap route and get spacers to lift the SUV. Maybe just an inch or so would do. If there is a spacer lift available, they should slide in on the top of the shock between the shock and the mounting point on the vehicle to lift it. If you absolutely did not want to lift the vehicle, you may be able to get by with trimming the fenders so the tires will clear. The wheel spacers will at least help give clearance when the tires turn. I would advise checking with an aftermarket shop, or someone you trust with vehicle knowledge. I don't know how much fender clearance you have with your current tires. Best wishes and have fun.
Thank you Jason! So you think 3" lift ( just coil spacer) will be enough to fit that size? Its just $50 to $60 on eBay
Dang, that's a good deal. If you're sure it will fit the 4Runner, I would jump on it. And I think that will easily give you enough clearance. 3 inch lift, and only 1 inch more of tire between the hub and the fender (the other inch is on the bottom). I've got a older Nissan Frontier I just lifted. I've got 3 inch lift on it and that was easily enough to go from 27" tires to 31" tires.
LOL no I'm not sure!!! that's why I posted a question on this site!!!!!!
