i parked my van for 24 hrs. ,tried to crank it, it will not start, engine turns over, battery
good, but i noticed the fuel gauge is not working when i try to crank, what could be my
Sounds like no power is getting back to the fuel pump. The sending unit on the gauge is incorporated into the fuel pump module. Check your fuses then, the fuel pump relay. HTH. -Jim
Knock on the gas tank from underneath. Some little rat may of taken your gas from the tank. Check the fuse to the fuel pump. If you can see if you have gas at the injectors and or spark at the plugs.
we have checked all of the above, sprayed starter in carb., it tries to start, but doesn't . fuses and relay are good, If we need a new fuel pump, can we install one that's not in the gas tank, and where should we mount it.
If it won't at least run, even roughly, for a few seconds it's not a fuel problem. Time to check for spark and run a compression test. HTH. -Jim
it will run roughly for a second or two.
Ok, then it's a fuel problem. Remove the gas cap and get a helper. Put your ear next to the gas filler hole. Have your helper turn the ignition on but don't crank the engine. You should hear the fuel pump run for about 3 seconds. If not, fuel pump is bad or wiring going to it is. Since the gauge is out too, inspect the wiring and connectors going back to the fuel pump first. If they're good, time to drop the tank and change the fuel pump. HTH. -Jim
