Oil Leaks

I have copious oil leaks at various gaskets.  I'm a novice at repairs, but willing to get my hands dirty.  Is it realistic to think I can change out my head gaskets with "normal" tools and a not so great carport?  I have had gaskets changed before - why do they fail so quickly?

buy a chiltons or haynes auto repair manual from almost any parts store about $20 will get u a book that will explain everything from changing fuses to complete engine overhaul
