what make steering wheel shimmy shake at times shake hard with light knocking noise?

steering wheel shake & shimmer then all of sudden shake harder with a light
knocking noise then it stops & does it again?

Warped rotors WILL cause the steering wheel to shake & shimmy. Appearance of problem is usually worse when you apply the brakes. Worn disk pads will make this worse. You REALLY need a brake job.
