Is it safe to drive my car with a full size spare?
04 Subaru Forester XS. I currently have my full-size spare tired on my rear
driver side. My other tires are all season like the spare, and it is the same
size. This spare tire is almost new so it has full tread on it. I've driven about
20 miles while going low 70's-low 80's. I was wondering if any damage has
been/will be done to my car? What would that damage be?
I've read some other forums and I've seen people say stuff like it'd throw off
the LSD (I think that's what it's called?), some even mentioned that the car
should go into FWD.
What should I do?
Nope, you're fine. As long as the tire is the same size as the other three no damage will be done. A full sized spare can be used exactly as any of the other tires. Hope that helps! Jim
If the tire is significantly taller or shorter than your other tires you should not drive that fast and you should replace it ASAP. If the tire is the proper size then there are no worries.
