why do I get a message saying that the a/c has been turned off to protect the engine?

when sitting still the message comes on. Also the heater does not stay hot>

Sounds like your engine is very low on coolant and is overheating. Refill the cooling system, bleed the air out and check for leaks. HTH. -Jim
