Transmission shifting hard

Asked by Elissa Nov 19, 2015 at 08:26 PM about the 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix Base

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have an 06' Grand Prix and if I drive slow (0-20mph) for a good period of time or do a lot of stopping and going with a lot of slow driving, for instance in heavy traffic, my car will start shifting really hard from 1st to 2nd gear and from 3rd to 4th gear. If I stop and turn the car off for even a short period of time (5minutes) and start it again, it'll stop doing it. Its never happened if I drive at normal speeds. Thoughts?

DO NOT add lucas have your car scanned for code 1811 you can clear the codes and unless the trans is severely worn you may get a few thousand miles out of it before the code resets ultimately that's the sign the trans is taking to long to shift. the pcm will jack up line pressure in the transmission to offset the shift delay basically the clutches are worn out and or the accumulators are leaking otherwise trans may need to be rebuilt
