see if you can get your mitts on a coolant system pressure tester...pressurize, then look for where it sprays...I suspect they were not mindful of the seating of the gasket~

do they rent them at autozone or some where

I hope that it is NOT water but 50/50 ethylene glycol and water mix...just water=death to the motor, because aluminum heads immediately corrode and react with water (gavonically)~

I'm sure they will, but your local corner mechanic will have one....hey this one's thirty bucks plus ten bucks shipping~ http://www.amazon.com/Mityvac-MV4560-Radiator-Cooling- Pressure/dp/B003V9L05G/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1386895280&sr=8- 3&keywords=cooling+system+pressure+tester

perhaps autozone or orally's has them too~

It's probably the lower intake manifold gasket. GMs 3.8 motors are notorious for upper and lower intake gasket failure. HTH. -Jim
