All depends on condition. Retail would be around $2400, so figure you should buy around $2K for an excellent example. So avg. would be about $1K.

I agree with TOM but only you can determine what you are willing to pay for it. $1K is a good offer if the car is in better than average condition but you should not go over $1.5 unless it is in outstanding condition. Start your negotiation at $750 if it is avg.
