Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2005 Pontiac shaking when I slow down.   I
had some trouble with my transmission about
six months ago. Cost me $1900 to rebuild.
About a month after, I noticed my car shaking
whenever I slow down, sometimes when I
accelerate. Nobody seems to know why.
They blame my tires, I changed my tires.
Then they tell me my rotors are bad, I just
changed my rotors, and it’s not something
that happens all the time, so rotors don’t fix
themselves so it’s not my rotors. I took it
back to the people who rebuilt  my
transmission, they say it’s not my
transmission. I’m no mechanic, but it sure
does seem like it’s the transmission to me.
The faster I go sometimes it will smooth out,
but as soon as I slow down it starts to vibrate
and shake again.

We cannot diagnose your problem online. I would try a better tire balance. Look for shops that can do a Road Force tire balance. Have them check the wheels for runout and the wheel bearings for play.

You should also have the front suspension checked for damage and wear. Your car is old enough that it is likely time for new bushings, ball joints etc.

Sounds like tires have been ruled out. I've had badly worn out axle shafts do that and yes, at higher speeds they tend to smooth out. Worn out A-arm bushings can also do that although they are generally not a problem in these cars. As was mentioned above, I'd have a full front end inspection done by a competent front end shop to see if other components are due for replacement as well.
