How do I know what could be causing my check
engine light to pop on

You can rent, borrow or purchase a OBDii Code scanner to scan for the trouble codes. That will then tell you what sensor is detecting a problem, illuminating the light. An auto parts store can scan your vehicle for free if you don't want to do it yourself, or a mechanic will charge you to find the code and make the necessary repair. If you have the 4 digit trouble codes you can look them up online or post them back here for more help.
