04 Pontiac grand prix wont shift into any gear, motor just reves and car goes nowhere

Asked by Sep 06, 2013 at 02:23 PM about the 2004 Pontiac Grand Prix GT1

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

car made a popping noise in every gear when in gear andstepped on the accelerator, the harder I pushed the pedal the more rapid the popping noise became. and then once up to a faster speed the popping would quit until I slowed down to a stop and had to accelerate rapidly again. happened every time in every gear. wasn't near as bad in reverse. then one day I was traveling at speed , about 65 and heard one pop and the car hasn't grabbed a gear since.

From your description I would say that the drive chain or sprockets has broke, tranny will have to come out.
