Car temperature gets hot and cold is it the thermostat

Is it normal for the car
temperature to rise while in park
just idling. While when the car is
driving going down the road temp
stays about 170? and the car HS
a be water pump.

With the service engine soon light on I suspect it's the thermostat sticking. With this vehicle the engine must reach normal operating temperature of 195 degrees Fahrenheit within nine minutes of a cold start up. If not the service engine soon light will come on and a trouble code will set. Replace the thermostat with a 195 degree Fahrenheit thermostat and bleed the cooling system to insure that there's no air trapped in the cooling system. Hope that helps! Jim
