2002 grand prix a/c not working

Asked by May 28, 2016 at 06:50 PM about the 2002 Pontiac Grand Prix GT

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2002 Pontiac grand prix and the a/c does not work. When I turn the A/C on it just blows out regular temperature air. Checked to see if it needed a refill and it is ok, and I believe the compressor does turn on when the air is turned to on. I am just wondering what are some easy at-home diagnostics I can perform to figure out where the problem lies, because I don't feel like shelling out $1000+ to get it fixed if it is an easy fix.

$1000? You believe the compressor is on? Either it is or isn't, look to see if the alley is spinning. I personally leave the AC work to the pro's. Unless you have the proper gauges to measure the amount of refrigerant in the system no home remedy will help. You might get lucky using a fix in a can, but that is sometimes only temporary as there is a leak in the system. Find a local mechanic who can help, will be hundreds if something needs replacing not a thousand. Also they can tell you what is the issue, like the compressor , low refrigerant, etc.
