you have a 3.1 or 3.8 Mass Air Flow sensor i would put the old stock sensor back in it and try again....what brand kit/filter/sensor did you buy? i dont have any problems with AIRAID >http://www.airaid.com/search/appsearch.aspx? type=all&year=2001&make=PONTIAC&model=Grand+Prix&engine=3. 8L#&&/wEXBgUIQVBQX1RZUEUFA2FsbAUOUkVGRVJFTkNFX05BTU UFCkFQUF9TRUFSQ0gFCkFQUF9FTkdJTkUFBDMuOEwFCUFQUF9 NT0RFTAUKR3JhbmQgUHJpeAUIQVBQX01BS0UFB1BPTlRJQUMFC EFQUF9ZRUFSBQQyMDAxbUOmzi7G8dvT2Pf2p3Kq0pSFsWxtHrO+ ovz2QOBEC/s=

K/N stock sensor did same thing?? Auto Zone only had 3 that fit is there better one to balance the airflo??

oh yea...there are ok and BETTER... jet power flow..check this out >http://www.carid.com/2001-pontiac-grand-prix-air-intakes......other than that does it run right??? disconnect the battery again then put some miles on it..This list covers the majority of symptoms I've seen on these types of GM Mass Air Flow sensors: MAF Codes that light up the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT (CEL) on your instrument cluster. >>> http://easyautodiagnostics.com/gm/3.8L/maf- sensor-diagnostic-tests-1 P0101 Mass Air Flow System Performance. P0102 Mass Air Flow Low Frequency. P0103 Mass Air Flow High Frequency. MAF sensor malfunction that DOES NOT light up the CHECK ENGINE LIGHT (CEL). Lean and/or Rich code(s). Fuel Trim code(s). A tremendous lack of power upon acceleration. Black smoke coming from the tail-pipe. BAD gas mileage. Vehicle may idle rough and stall.

The oil for the air filter will contaminate the mass airflow sensor. HTH. -Jim
