What tools are needed to replace a fuel filter on a 2001 Grand Prix GT?

Asked by Dec 31, 2013 at 04:57 PM about the 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My car ran out of gas while driving. The car will not start. I was told to try replacing the fuel
filter. What tools are needed? I know where it is located. I just need the correct tools
before starting the job. Thanks in advance ~B~

You'll need a quick disconnect tool for the one end of the fuel filter and two open end wrenches for the other. But since you ran out of gas you probably burned out the fuel pump. The electric fuel pump is inside the gas tank. The fuel flowing through it is what keeps the electric motor cool. By running it dry I bet you need a fuel pump. HTH. -Jim
