I replaced battery in my 1999 grand prix and the engine light stays on when started

Car wouldn't remain started.  Replaced the battery and the car starts and can be driven
,but the engine light remains on.

Take to Autozone or similar parts store and ask them to scan to obtain the trouble code for your vehicle and post it here. This is usually a free service.
