Engine replacement on 1997 Grand Prix GT

Asked by Sep 08, 2014 at 01:18 PM about the 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix 4 Dr GT Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 1997 Grand Prix GT that I have replaced the engine with one out of a 2001 Monte Carlo.  Both are 3.8l Series II engines.  Do I need the harness and computer from the Monte Carlo or will the Grand Prix harness and computer work?

Grab the harness, the computer, and the vehicle identification number of the doner car. The engines are the same but some of the sensors and accessories may be in slightly different locations. You may have to flash (program) the computer, at some point. If so, you'll need the VIN from the doner car. HTH. -Jim
