97 Pontiac Grand prix gtp supercharge won't start

Asked by Nov 06, 2016 at 04:26 AM about the 1997 Pontiac Grand Prix 2 Dr GTP Supercharged Coupe

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My grand prix has an after market remote start. I
lost the remote start so my dad wired a toggle
switch strait from the battery to the starter. It
worked at first. The next morning I started my car,
drove about 10 miles then my car dies without
warning. Won't crank at all. I'm confused because
the starter can't cause the car to die while driving it
right? Please help.

Sounds like you activated the security system. Even without the remote start it should still start and run with the key. Remove the toggle switch set up. The days of hot wiring a car like that are over. The toggle switch set up is probably what activated the security system. At this point you are probably going to have to go to your local GM Dealer for repair. Sorry about that! HTH. -Jim
