Does the fuel pump run when it does not start up? A fuel pressure check would determine if the pump is to blame. If fuel pressure checks okay when it does not start, there is an issue upstream of the pump.
I agree with Mark about getting a fuel pressure check. You might get fuel pressure every time, but miss hearing the "click." If you are getting pressure every time it might be an ignition problem like dying coil, old plug wires...
