Car won't start, just clicks when I turn the key, I have a new starter and new battery. I'm being told it might be the ignition how would I know if that's the problem?

Cross the sylinoid on the starter,if it turns over,it will be the ignition.

Is that why you changed the battery and starter, or did this problem start after you did that work? If so recheck all connections. Could easily be a loose one, especially a bad ground. If there's enough power getting through to make it click, its unlikely that its your ignition. Also if the battery is new but you haven't had the car running since you put it in, make sure it is fully charged. A new battery should be charged, but you need to be sure. Will it start when boosted from another car?

is it possible that the key has anything to do with it not starting. it started last nite then boom nothingnot even a click and we couldnt get the key out

Not likely the key. Perhaps it’s not properly shifted into park. Or possibly a wiring issue at the base of the steering column. There is an electrical solenoid that needs to be working to release the key and may affect starting as well try tilting the steering wheel to another position.

Not sure if this will all work, but here are some suggestions. Turn the key to the run position and lower one of the windows so you don't end up getting locked out of the car. Pull the fuse for the alarm so the horn will stop going off. Buy a new remote fob and program it to your car. Call a locksmith and find out if he can cut a new key for your locks or rekey the driver's door lock and cut you new keys. Hope some or all of that helps.

I have a 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix, with 204K miles on it. It sometimes won't turnover/start. When it won't start, sometimes I hear a click and other times I hear nothing. The heater, lights and radio come on though.. I replaced the battrry, starter, alternator and ignition control panel. I replaced the ignition as well, but still had the same problem so took the new ignition back to AutoZone and reinstalled the old one. When the car does start it runs great. Can someone offer me a possible solution?

One more thing I forgot to mention about my 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix, the Security warning light is lit up on my dash.

I had the same problem just recently. Oddly enough, it turned out that The A/C Compressor was completely Locked up so and there was no crank... Before figuring this out, I ended up replacing the starter, switched out the battery and was about to change out the ignition switch and module. My neighbor told me to try to crank the engine by hand using a Socket and pry bar. Freaking thing would not turn. I took off the Serpentine belt and tried it again and there was no issue. I checked to see what was and wasn't spinning and the A/C Compressor was the issue. Hope this helps and good luck.

there is something about recoding the security system when the battery is disconnected. I can't remember how. you do it on the radio where you adjust your clock. This is for a 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix. Sorry I can't help. that what I am on here for is to find out how.

Solved my problem by leaving the key on and trickle charger on so battery wouldn't die and 24 hours later the lights came on the key reminder started ringing and I turned it off took key out put it back in and and it started right up and been running now for 4 days no problems so far
