Do i have to remove. the entire.
dash to get the stereo. out

No, remove the plastic bezel around the radio, use a small flat screwdriver to pry it loose (click on pic below, the red line shows where it separates.

Remember to be gentle with the bezel. The plastic is old and may be brittle. HTH. -Jim
