What could be the problem when the Trac Off light comes on after my car get to 260+ degrees?

while I drive my Pontiac Grand Am GT V6 the temperature will rise to 260+, I turn on the heat and it feels like I have the A/C on, and then the Trac Off light comes on and when I slow down to stop the car feels like it is about to stall.

Sounds like you're dangerously low on coolant!!
