It's in the back of the engine compartment near the firewall. It (should) has a red plastic handle on it. HTH. -Jim

It likely does not have a dipstick. Look for a red cap on the drivers side of the engine/transmission. It will be down lower so you will need a flashlight, that is where you add fluid. As far as checking the level goes there is a very small plug that needs to be accessed from under the car, it's difficult to get to because the car has to be level to check. The procedure from there should be online or in a Haynes or Chiltons manual. It has to be done exactly or the transmission can be over/under filled and damaged.

My '00 Grand Prix has a dipstick. HTH. - Jim

I think that is the 4T65, the Grand Am is the 4T45. My 1999 Grand Am has no dipstick. Checking the level requires access to a plug on the transmission underneath the car. It may be easier to take it to a shop with a lift.
