check engine light 96 Pontiac Grand Am SE

Asked by May 24, 2016 at 11:06 PM about the 1996 Pontiac Grand Am 4 Dr SE Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I just bought my 96 grand am and 9 days later the
check engine light came on and it didn't pass smog.
The error codes are p0134 and p0141. Does anyone
knows what those codes mean and how can I reset
the check engine light so I can pass smog?

0134: Oxygen sensor circuit - no activity detected (upstream sensor) 0141: O2 sensor heater circuit malfunction (bank 1, sensor 2) Haynes manual has code interpretations

Thank you for your reply. Do you know if there is a way to reset the check engine light without having those error codes repaired and will that be able to let the car pass smog? I need my tags as they expire this month, but needed to pass smog and I don't have the extra money now to make repairs. Just trying to buy some time but also make my registration current.

Disconnecting the battery for twenty minutes then re-connect might temporarily reset check engine light, but it won't last for long
