How can I tell if I have a transmission problem?

Asked by Nov 27, 2013 at 08:46 AM about the 1996 Pontiac Grand Am 4 Dr SE Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 96 4 cyl grand am runs rough when pressing the gas. If it's in neutral, it runs great no problems. When pressing the gas, it's a growling sound. Could this be a transmission problem?

Might be trans, or loose exhaust based on your description. Any more details?
