1993 Pontiac Grand AM SE 3.3 litre. Is there a hatch under rear seat to access fuel pump?

Not sure but there is a good chance that there is. Just have to look. You would see and outline of a cutout that is sealed.

Nope, had one of these, nothing there.

So would they have to drop the gas tank then?

Yep. It seems that only imports had the common sense to make an access port to get to the fuel pumps.
