How often do I need to change the transmission fluid in my 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My father has owned this car since 1999 and it had 6000 miles
on it. It is a 1995 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme. The gear
shifter is really hard to shift in the morning when I try to put it in
gear and the car was stalling, but my cousin put a new battery
in it and also replaced something to do with the ignition swith. I
think? The  Low Coolant light and ABS light stays on all the
time too.
What do I need to do to fix all this?

Sounds like the car sat for a long time. Drain the fuel and add new. I'd have all fluids replaced, including the transmission fluid. Low coolant might be just that or the sensor is dirty. Flush the system. ABS light is probably a wheel sensor, probably rusty or worn from age. Have the car scanned by your mechanic and he will tell you which side it is and replace. Good Luck crusin' in style.

The transmission fluid and filter should be changed every 100,000 miles. HTH. - Jim

Thank you so very much...I was just checking for advice and the funny thing is, is my Dad is 81 years old and he said that he thinks that the problem is the transmission fluid needs to be drained and new put in...He hasn't changed it the whole time that he has had the car. You have been a huge help! Made my Dad feel PROUD!! Thank you!
