2001 Mitsubishi Sport 183.000 miles transmission oil has never been changed.

Asked by May 13, 2014 at 06:18 PM about the 2001 Mitsubishi Montero Sport LS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I don't believe the transmission fluid has ever been changed.  I don't have any problems at
this time however I've had a company recommend changing the fluid.  Is this a good idea?
He said it's leaking and I was told never to change it since it has been so long.

Female looking for a truthful answer.  Thanks.

183K the tranny could fail at any time as it has never been serviced, the problem with this question is the conflicting information out there. One place says service it another says flush and service and then do nothing at all. So if this was my rig and I had never serviced the trans and it was driving normally, at this point in time I would just drive it, the damage is done and it is only a matter of time now. Then if I still liked the rig and wanted to keep it, start saving for a tranny. If I am getting tired of it then start looking for a replacement vehicle while it is still working. HTH
