P0304 code, car dies while driving and starts back up after a few minutes

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 2003 Eclipse GTS w/ 210k miles dies while driving but starts back up after a few minutes. I am getting a P0304 (#4 cylinder mis-fire) but I don't know why that would kill the engine. I replaced plugs and wires 30k miles ago. I am thinking fuel pump. Before I replace the pump I'd like to check the cheaper things first. A few questions: 1) is there a Auto Shut Down relay in this car?, 2) is there a separate fuel filter other than the strainer on the pump in the tank?, 3) I think there are two pump relays located in the cabin fuse box but they are not labeled. Which ones are they? Any other ideas?

It sounds, like it is your fuel pump, relays go out all the way, filter would not do it intermidate, check the fuel pressure, you will find it to be your pump, bad as you don,t want to do it,

Thanks T_S_T. I thought it was the pump also but was thinking maybe a relay could possibly "heat up" and have to cool down before it operated OK! Oh well, I can always dream... Off to pick up my pump.
