where do i begin troubleshooting?

i just bought a 98 with a class II clutch recently installed and it just started grinding and wont go in gears

So either the class ll is too much for the hydraulic clutch or the hydraulics are failing, and that is not releasing the clutch for proper shifting. You can move the shift lever into 1 or 2 positions with the engine off? Just want to make sure you don't have a shift fork or cluster gear problem.
