How do we fix this properly after money is not a problem?

Asked by Dec 07, 2013 at 05:57 PM about the 2000 Mercury Grand Marquis LS

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

There is a box shaped metal piece
hanging from the middle back
underneath. It has 2 hoses connected
to it and go into the car. We can't
drive the car for obvious reasons so
the quicker an answer the better and
more appreciated!

It's the Evaporative Emissions Canister - around $300 for a new one. It's held in place with a couple of small rivets and 2 nuts.

Its not broken or damaged. Its just hanging off. Could it be as easy as screwing it back in?

How would I go about fixing it? Right now it's just bungee corded up.

Coming from a 19 year old girl, how do i go about fixing it? what tools do i need?

Basic tools - It's held in place by 3 rivets and 2 nuts. At the very worst, you'd have to drill out the 3 rivets and replace them with small nuts and bolts. A shop could do it very quickly for about 1/2 hour labor.
