Rear end / differential

Asked by Richard May 21, 2020 at 01:48 AM about the 1999 Mercury Grand Marquis 4 Dr LS Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My driver side rear wheel moves when I drive. It clunks loud
enough to raise concern, so when I went and jacked it up i
tried to wiggle it and the whole axel moves about a quarter
inch in and out  when I wiggle it holding the brake rotor
what do u think is the issue is it worn pinion gears or
hopefully just a wheel bearing maybe ?
