1995 Mercury Grand Marquis jerks

Asked by Laura Jun 19, 2024 at 02:32 PM about the 1995 Mercury Grand Marquis 4 Dr LS Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My 1995 Grand Marquis periodically jerks while driving. It feels
like when it is trying to shift gears. I could be driving at 10 mi or
50 mi, it doesn't matter.  It's a slight jerk, but it's consistent. I was
told that it could be a transmission on its way out or a bad
distributor. Apparently these vehicles are set up with an ignition
module that likes to cut out and back on again. Anybody have
any recommendations, suggestions? I unfortunately do not have
the funds to just throw parts at it. Also, the only code that is on
there is for an EGR. There are no misfire codes in there.

Torque converter shutter was common back then, add some Shutter stop in to fluid and see if it helps. Most parts stores have it. A sticking egr valve can also give you a slight surge feeling. As you already have the code try unplugging it from its vacuum supply and see if that also helps.

The EGR may be controlled by a sensor or vacuum , You should start there , If you can get rid of the code that's an improvement , Personally you should drive it till it don't go no more then buy something newer . DO NOT put a bunch of money into a 30 year old car
