Why won't the car start sometimes, but will at others?

Asked by Nov 04, 2012 at 10:41 AM about the 1993 Mercury Grand Marquis 4 Dr LS Sedan

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Sometimes, when I turn the key, nothing happens at all.  Then I will re-turn the key and the car will start.  The battery is checking out fine, I replaced the alternator about 2 weeks ago because it was not charging the battery.  Any help please?

Could be your ignition switch, your ignition lock cylinder, or maybe the battery cables, or starter wires themselves are loose, frayed or cut. When the car won't start try wiggling the wires and see what happens. Check all your connections and report back.

Also check for grounding issues. the older models tend to have this problem once they reach a certain age. ( lol mostly the 80's models )
