Running problems with 97 Lincoln town car
I need some help, I have a 97 Lincoln town car
that keeps stalling. Fuel pump, filter , relay, fuel
pressure regulator have all been replaced. Fuel
pressure is good , injectors good. No engine
codes. Any ideas , help is greatly appreciated,
thanks in advance
I would replace the spark plugs if you have not done them recently. Check your air filter too and maybe run a good injector cleaner like Seafoam or Chevron with Techron.
The plugs are fairly new, we put a fuel injector cleaner in it at the start of the problems and are still on that tank of fuel. This car has over 230k.... So seafoam scares me....
If it is stalling at idle, then I would suspect the the IAC (idle air control) is bad. It is located on the throttle body. You can try cleaning it, but more likely it may need to be replaced. If you do decide to replace the IAC get on from Ford and not an aftermarket unit. Aftermarket IAC controls sometimes cause problems. Note: if you car is stalling driving down the road you have something else going on and it will likely NOT be the IAC.
Techron is a good fuel system detergent and probably the best you can buy. Also BG 44K is good stuff also.....https://www.bgprod.com/catalog/gasoline-fuel-system/bg- 44k-fuel-system-cleaner/
