Hear noise coming from fan blade at times, tapping the gas sometimes will stop the noise
at times there is a noise coming from the fan blade area, by increasing the idle speed and
letting the engine speed idle will cause the noise to go away. Also at the time of the noise
there is a slight vibration. Could that be a clutch problem?
Fan clutch, possibly.. With the engine off can you spin it with your hand? It shouldn't spin more than one revolution. Maybe your motor mounts are shot allowing the motor to sag and the fan blades to hit the shroud. Look at the edge of the blades, are they nipped off? When you hit the gas, the motor raises and the noise goes away.
Good advice Tom. I would also inspect the pulleys and belt while you are there.
Tom, as you suggested, I went out and checked the blade, you can turn the blade as many times as you want with the engine off, it does not stop after a full revolution. Should the clutch be replaced? also just for info the engine has only 31,000 miles on it. thanks
I looked at the online part catalog and it seems your car doesn't have a traditional fan clutch, but an electric fan, is this right? To check, a traditional fan clutch is bolted to the water pump and the fan to it.
There is a water pump bolted to the engine and the fan blade is bolted to it. Do you think it could be the water pump? Thanks Herbert
