VSC/check engine light
How much should it cost to repair a vsc/check engine light issue? Can my
regular repair shop do it or must it be done by the dealership?
No way to know without knowing the trouble codes. Any qualified shop can do the diagnostic and repair.
It used to be that a dashboard idiot light correlated to the car's problem. Today, it seems that idiot lights were designed more by idiots. In a Lexus, the most common problem for Stability and Check Engine lights to come on together is a loose gas cap, really, or a problem with an O2 sensor. As your car is sixteen years old, I suggest you replace the gas cap, the new one will have a new seal. If that doesn't turn off the lights within a few cold starts, have a mechanic check out the car for a misfire, exhaust problem, or a defective O2 sensor.
