What type of power steering fluid should I use?

I own a 2000 Lexus ES300 and want to change my power steering fluid.  The power steering cap says to use a dexron type atf, but the clerk at my auto parts store says she never heard of using atf for power steering on an on-going-basis.  Should I use an automatic transmission fluid in my power steering unit or should I buy a regular power steering fluid?

Please go by the power steering reservoir cap and or your owners manual. The auto parts store clerk was not trained properly. Dex/Merc ATF is what you want.
