What could be the problem with my antenna on my 1996 Lexus 300

Asked by Jul 05, 2012 at 10:03 AM about the 1996 Lexus ES 300 Base

Question type: General

When I turn on my radio, the car antenna makes a loud noise and will not go up nor down.  What could be the problem?  The radio will still play.

The motor sounds like it's working, so I'd say the nylon strip that helps raise the antenna mast is broken. These can be removed and replaced, but requires you to remove the inner liner in the truck to access the motor. The nylon strip with the teeth on them comes part of the new antenna mast. If you want to try replacing it yourself, we can help you a little further.

If I am interested in repairing this myself as I am having a similar problem, what would you recommend?
