How do I evacuate air out of P.S. system in a 1995Lexus ES300?

Asked by Jul 22, 2015 at 03:46 PM about the 1995 Lexus ES 300 FWD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I withdrew P.S. fluid from power steering.  I refilled reservoir, started engine and noticed a lot of free play.  I turned wheel all the way right and left.  Still too much free play.  What to  do.

With the engine running, slowly turn the steering wheel all the way, stop to stop, in both directions with the power steering fluid cap off until you don't see any foam in the fluid. This usually takes several minutes of turning the wheei. Be sure that you have the correct fluid in there and never ever put transmission fluid in a power steering system unless specified by the vehicle manufacturer! HTH. -Jim
