I pulled the front drive shaft on my 2005 jeep grand cherokee because i thought it had a bad joint and now it will not pull with only the rear end?
That is cause the clutches inside the transfer case are sensing an abnormality in the AWD system so the clutches are not engaging to prevent further damage, you could over ride by putting it into 4LO but speed will be greatly reduced, plus you run a risk of damaging the transfer case's internal clutches running it on a hard surface.
Thank You very much for the feedback. I tried to put it in 4Lo but it would not engage either, before taking out the front drive shaft it was making a popping sound, it seemed to be coming from the front end, that's why I thought it was a universal joint. Is it possible that the front drive shaft was powering the vehicle and the rear was never engaging at all and putting excess wear on the front shaft?
