When I drive my Jeep Grand Cherokee over a bumpy road with potholes I have to stop immediately as it shakes from wheels up through to steering as if it's falling apart or a wheel's going to drop off.
I would inspect the tie rod ends and ball joints. If either is bad and breaks the wheel will turn or lay over. With wheel jacked up off of the ground grab it on either side and push/pull on it. Also grab top and bottom and do the same way. If there is a problem you should be able to locate what's wrong this way.
