if the rpms are noticeably high on the highway, then overdrive is off meaning the light is on-overdrive is only available when certain perimeters are met. Commonly being the torque converter overheating in result forcing it to default to normal mode 'even though to us overdrive is normal' to the jeep overdrive is the preferred option, but the alternative option. You should have a full tranny/converter fluid and filter change, possibly with synthetic.

get the jeep to operating temp (drive 10 miles or so) leaving the car on, pull the parking brake and go from P to R N D pausing briefly in each and returning back to N. Check the tip stick- look for correct level and fluid color, transmission fluid is generally a bright translucent redish pink, the darker red in color or if its brown you need to change it
