goes into 4wd light works but when i try to disengage 4wd back to 2wd light goes out but transfer case is still in 4wd
My 2002 grand cherokee selec-trac goes into 4wd from 2wd with no problem, light comes on also. When i shift back to 2wd light goes out but transfer case stays in 4wd, it can take several minutes or sometimes i have to run the shifter and transfer case lever threw all gears/positions for the transfer case to finally release back to 2wd. Is this newer nv242 transfer case the same as the older np242 meening is there a vacuum switch that controls the front axle?
shifting back and forth seems like a good way to put alot of wear on the transfer case. im not sure if this is an issue on your year but my 98 with the nv242 is known for having bad linkage.
(Just a thought) It might be set up like older t-cases where after you shift out of 4wd into 2wd, you might still have to backup about 10-15 ft. to get it to fully disengage. I know with the newer Chevy's you don't need to, but I'm too well versed on Jeep/ Chrysler. Once again, just a thought.......
That disengages the hubs, not the transfer case
