My 2001 cherokee shut off while driving. Sat for a few mins then it stared back. Drove for a cuple miles then it cut off then it started going agian. Whats going on? Just got this jeep.
Any check engine lights on before it shuts off? It could be many different things: fuel pump, fuel filter, fuel pressure regulator, electrical short, ecm, crank sensor, throttle position sensor, cam sensor (if it has one) ect. Hopefully we can point you in the right direction. Let us know what you find
no lights comes on
how do I get my answer
I would start with checking the wires yo the furl pump. A new fuel filter and a tune up couldn't hurt. It could also be a fuel pump or fuel pressure regulator.
It's your crank shaft positioning sensor, I had the same problem. If it was related to your fuel pump it would put, put, put out, but if your jeep just turns off while your driving have that sensor switched out. If I remember correctly it's about $50 and $50 for installation.
