99 Laredo cuts off while driving - no errors on computer
My 99 Jeep Laredo will just cut off
while driving. Lights, radio and dash
still work but engine stops as if I
turned key back right. Almost every
time the rpms jump to 7 then drop
to 0 really fast. So far no one can
diagnose this problem. There were
no errors when It was hooked to
the computer, it just showed the
power drop. It will do this in park or
while stopped at a light or while
going any speed.
Have you already replaced all the usual stuff that fails on the Jeeps? Cam and crank sensors, check relays etc.
Crank sensor yes but no mechanics seem to know what else to try and since I need an axle bearing fixed for a bunch of $ I can't just jeep spending replacing parts that might not fix it. I need a good lead on the most likely source of the problem
The only thing I know that might help you is having the system thoroughly checked out using a freeze frame live data scanner, but this is a bit labor intensive so it can get expensive rather quickly. Sorry but that is all I can think of right now.
Thank you. I was googling the problem and saw almost the same problem on a honda. Most answers said something about fuel.
Usually on a Jeep you will get a lean code and notice some stumbling on take off, your problem could be an intermittent computer glitch, that is why I suggested what I did.
I appreciate it and will see if my mechanic can do that. I don't have any stumbling on takeoff. But it does seem to be idling low in general. Thanks again.
