1999 jeep laredo noisy undercarriage
check your skid plates, those become loose after some time, a simple bolt can make a huge rattle
would that make the sound as if someone is banging the chassis under the car at any speed? any info on clunking sound when put into gear - either reverse or drive?
No that would not make a banging noise. To me that sounds like it could be the transfer case... is it 4X4?
2WD - automatic - 170k
So you hear a clunking noise at any speed and makes a banging noise when engaging into drive or reverse? if so you definitely have a tranny issue. check the fluid, it should be nice and red no matter how many miles, if it is dark or has silver specs you have issues. wont last you long like that.
BANGING NOISE WHEN DRIVING WHEN SLIGHT MOVEMENT FROM SIDE TO SIDE OR HUMPS - CLUNKING WHEN ENGAGING REVERSE OR DRIVE
As i said check your tranny fluid and make sure its nice and red and at the proper level. There is really nothing else that can cause that noise when engaging into drive or reverse. As of the banging noise from movement from side to side or over humps you might want to check your wheel barings.
Probably your U joint on the axle. Lube it if it has a nipple, if not just replace. Not a difficult job to do.
