Tire sizes

Asked by Mar 27, 2019 at 02:41 AM about the 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Is it bad to have 1 tire 235/70r15
And 325/70r15 could this damage my truck

1 Answer

Those tires have a large difference in diameter and tread width; both are a problem on your car. A 2WD car should have tires match side-to-side as this affects the alignment and, more importantly, the axle behavior. A 4WD car needs to have all four tires the same size because a mismatch causes the drive axles to turn at different speeds and will damage the 4WD system. You really need to replace the tires with four that match exactly.
