My oil pressure gage does not work properly

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My oil pressure gage does not work properly on my 2003 GMC Sierra. The needle is stuck in the position on the gage all the way to the right of the numbers. Could this be a problem with the gage or maybe a problem with the sending unit?

There are known problems with the stepper motors on these gauges, other problems are: the screen under the oil pressure sender gets plugged up causing a null reading, broken senders causing a way past the high mark on the gauge, when this happens the gauge will return to the low mark when the key is shut off and then turn just to the on position. So as yours is stuck I would say the stepper motor is froze in the position cause you didn't state that it would return to the 0 reading when the key was first turned on. Now you still may have a sender or circuit problem that caused the problem in the first place, but you won't know that until you have a properly functioning gauge. HTH
